Effective regional preparedness depends on more than committed partners—it requires systems that enable organizations to communicate, collaborate, and make decisions efficiently.

As Regional Healthcare Coordinator, I led a multi-year effort to strengthen the operational infrastructure supporting the regional healthcare coalition. Building upon the coalition's existing foundation, I implemented improvements that modernized communication, enhanced governance, standardized operational processes, expanded collaborative workgroups, and improved access to preparedness resources.

Rather than introducing change for its own sake, each improvement was intentionally designed to address feedback from coalition members, lessons learned from exercises and real-world incidents, and the evolving preparedness priorities of the region.

The result has been a more connected, collaborative, and resilient coalition that is better equipped to support healthcare organizations before, during, and after emergencies.

The Challenge

As coalition participation expanded and preparedness initiatives became increasingly complex, existing systems needed to evolve.

Opportunities for improvement included:
