Community Vaccine Confidence Initiative
Project type
Building Trust Through Strategic Communication and Community Engagement
Date
March – May 2021
Location
Hamilton County, Ohio
Project Overview
As COVID-19 vaccines became widely available, the focus of the pandemic response shifted from distribution to public confidence. While vaccines represented a critical step toward protecting communities, many individuals remained hesitant due to misinformation, limited access to reliable information, and uncertainty surrounding vaccine safety and effectiveness.
As Project Manager, I led community outreach and stakeholder engagement initiatives designed to improve vaccine confidence through transparent, evidence-based communication. Working alongside healthcare professionals, community organizations, local leaders, and public health partners, I helped develop strategies that addressed community concerns while strengthening trust in public health recommendations.
The initiative emphasized listening before educating, recognizing that meaningful engagement begins with understanding the questions, experiences, and perspectives of the communities being served.
The Challenge
Vaccine availability alone was not enough to achieve widespread community protection.
Many residents faced barriers that included:
-Conflicting or inaccurate information.
-Limited trust in public institutions.
-Questions regarding vaccine safety and effectiveness.
-Communication gaps between public health agencies and community members.
-Rapidly evolving scientific guidance.
The challenge required more than public messaging—it required building relationships, fostering transparency, and creating opportunities for meaningful dialogue.

-Coordinating outreach efforts with healthcare providers, community organizations, and local leaders.

Key Takeaways
Public confidence is built through relationships, transparency, and consistent communication—not simply by sharing information. This initiative reinforced the importance of listening to community concerns, engaging trusted partners, and developing communication strategies that are responsive, respectful, and evidence-based. Those same principles continue to shape my approach to organizational resilience, helping clients strengthen stakeholder engagement, navigate change, and build trust during times of uncertainty.
